Conservation

With David McHugh, the practice has accredited expertise in architectural and building conservation. We undertake specialist conservation works for public and private clients on residential, museum, office and leisure buildings across Ireland.

The statutory consents procedure for works on Protected Structures can be of draconian complexity. We have experience in preparing the panoply of conservation reports, method statements, conservation impact assessments, measured and photographic surveys and feasibility studies; and in dialoguing with local authority Heritage Officers.

The best guarantee of a building’s continued preservation is a viable use and a viable design. We strive to deliver this, even when planning authorities’ limited competence and resources sometimes make it difficult. Our office at Mount Street was one of the first buildings in Dublin to have the façade repointed to the best modern techniques.

Correct Heritage Detailing requires careful attention on site. Regular site inspections on even the best-managed construction sites can ensure authenticity.
